Updated JAN / 2010
Update; [Oct 2008] Plans are in place to replace the hall roof, in the near or imminent future, we also have plans, dependant on funding, to replace all the hall tables, and put a new kitchen in place, further details of these projects, will be made available soon, meantime, these expenses will not reflect in hall rental charges, which will remain at the current level, for the foreseeable future, we review this structure periodically, but while current projects do involve some considerable expense, our aim is to continue our present level of hire subsidisation, to ensure hire charges are kept at affordable levels, running costs over the last 2 years or so, have been very encouraging, as a result of our careful use of funds to upgrade, During upgrades, the principle of which is to upgrade, to very low maintenance levels, systems being set to keep cost effective running of the premises, current fund raising is very encouraging also, thanks to increased local support, and interest, Please Note; Subject to confirmation of funding, the work needs to be completed by March 31st 2009.
HEATING “MAIN SYSTEM”:- Around Mid May 2006, the latest up to date hot air blower, this replaces the old belt driven unit, as it comes with built in motor, for zero vibration, this has dramatically improved, the hot air system, as new, To reduce noise even further, we have fitted a noise damper screen at the air intake, [back of stage ] the work has cost almost £1000, but sets the pace for a good few years to come, every effort is made to further improve the hall systems, This work has been completed by the first of October, 2006, tests done are outstanding, GO TO PHOTOS
The roof project, took almost two years of planning, with help from local council authorities, from parish council upwards, funding successfully granted, a fairly complex operation, the contract was completed on February 25th, 2009, by J Jackson & sons, [Scunthorpe] the roof is created by, first striping off the old asbestos sheets [36 years old, and quite leaky in many places] as the old is stripped off, the first skin layer is fastened down, on top of this a line of spacer rails is also fitted, This spacer is what the second skin is fastened down to, but first a roll of fibre loft type insulation material is carefully put in place, on top of this the second skin is fastened to the rails, a skirting plate is put along the bottom edge, the purpose of this being to prevent vermin getting in, and provides a level surface for the seal strip to be stuck on, as sheets are fitted, it provides a complete air seal, this is also done along the top ridge, the completed roof now has a fully insulated double skin, about 3 to 4” overall thickness, this is industrial grade, and provides good insulation in all weather,
Thanks to the help coming from many sections of the community, as well as all the many supporters who attend our many functions, so thank you ALL, for your loyal support, GO TO ROOF PROJECT
Kitchen project; after almost 36 years a new kitchen was installed, 29th March 2009, some modification to the layout makes this better storage, with a centre counter unit, fully tiled throughout, for easier cleaning, etc, with cupboards and large heavy duty draws, some photos can be seen here,
Inside lighting upgrades; aged lighting originally 8 foot fluoresant strip lighting, in the entrance section, and committee room, has been replaced with 5 foot dual strip lighting, [diffused] was completed 10th April 2009, this standardises the fittings in this section of the building, to 5 foot, the main hall is under review, and at some stage will be fitted with 4 foot dual tubes, with diffusers, as finance permits, other pressing reviews include painting various sections as both time and money permit,
19th May 2009; installed 31 new tables, 24x48x27.5” high, this replaces all old tables, the new ones are of Aluminium tough construction, with fold-in legs, we have also bought a table stackable trolly, which holds 16 folded tables, in a safe manor, this allows it to be stored in a corner out of use, this upgrade is a significant improvement on the old system, all old tables have been scrapped, with exception to some in the committee room, which will stay in place for the time being, this means we have extra tables for the main hall, catering for rather more people at parties etc, you can see some photos HERE
