Countless people say they just don’t know how to access their photos,
here is the correct way to set up your windows default for opening photos in your preferred paint enhance program, just follow the simple instructions below,
Go to control panel, click on folder options,the options box appears, click the tab marked file type, scroll down the list, use the slider on right, to find JPEG file, click to highlight, C shows the icon currently being used by windowsXP, [same applies to windows98 etc,] here we see the default is set by windows as being Adobe, we want to change this so photos open in ACDSee, so click on the button marked change,
in the image below, you see the change dialogue box is open, in this new box called open with, scroll the list to find your paint preferred program icon, and click on it, to highlight it, then click OK, you will see B has changed now to your new windows default open image JPEG, now click OKand exit this settings system, from this point your photo icons will now always open in this new setting, you can change this at any time, it is the windows default settings system,

To use file association, is by opening up a paint program, or enhance program, here our example is one of the ACDSee programs, often supplied as a free to use software with printers or scanners, basic but very functional indeed, and probably the most used as a default photo open program,
The tools list menu here is very much the same as any enhancing or paint program, so is quite easy to find, and set to be your windows automatic photo opening program
The file associations dialogue box in any paint type program is the defaulting tool to set your computer to open all picture files in this program, known as your preferred picture enhancing program, if you select all in the file preferences list, and click OK, exit, you have just told windows this is your preferred choice of software to use when you click on a picture icon, and will remain in your windows registry until you change it or you install software that once installed, itself over writes your preferred choice for it’s own default, as often is the case, but in such event you simply go back to the preferred program, go into options, and change it back, either of these methods can be used to set your computers default picture open settings,
Many people never bother to learn how to tell windows what preferences to select, so often when you click what appears to be a picture icon, although its a JPEG, may fail to open, because to do so hasn’t been set up, windows will usually use fax display if another program hasn’t been set up by the user,
